The World Association of PPP Units & Professionals (WAPPP) is delighted to welcome the Municipal Health Department of Belo Horizonte (Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Belo Horizonte – SMSA/PBH) as a full member of the association.

WAPPP, a Geneva-based global non-profit, unites public and private stakeholders working to advance Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) worldwide. Its members include public PPP units, corporate investors, financial institutions, and consultants across sectors. WAPPP views PPPs as more than a procurement mechanism—treating them as powerful tools for development and for achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Municipal Health Department of Belo Horizonte, part of the Undersecretariat of Strategic Planning and Health Technology of the Municipal Government, is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing public health policies for the capital city of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Its mission includes ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services and health education for the population. The Department currently manages PPP contracts for the Hospital Metropolitano Doutor Célio de Castro and the city’s Primary Health Care network units.

Marcelo Mourão, Undersecretary of Strategic Planning and Health Technology, emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “Becoming a recognized member of WAPPP represents a strong testament to the commitment and responsibility of the Municipal Health Department of Belo Horizonte in delivering robust and effective work in its public-private partnerships (PPPs).”

WAPPP President Ziad-Alexandre Hayek welcomed the partnership, adding, “We’re proud that the Municipal Health Department of the City of Belo Horizonte is joining WAPPP to promote more sustainable and successful public-private partnerships in the healthcare sector.”

This membership marks another step toward fostering collaboration, sharing best practices, and driving innovation in PPPs to enhance healthcare delivery for local communities.
